Dr. Sandeep Kumar Behera is a distinguished surgical oncologist who has made significant contributions to the field of oncology through his extensive training and expertise. Having completed his rigorous training in surgical oncology at the prestigious Regional Cancer Centre in Thiruvananthapuram in 2021, Dr. Behera embarked on a career dedicated to combatting cancer.
During his professional journey, he served as a lead surgical oncologist at the Cochin Cancer and Research Centre in Kochi, Kerala and at Karkinos Healthcare private limited, Kerala operations where he played a pivotal role in establishing the Department of Surgical Oncology and a cutting-edge minimal invasive surgical oncology unit. He has a great enthusiasm for new surgical innovations which will benefit the cancer patients. And to fulfil this thirst, Dr Behera is always in search of new learning experience. As a part of this journey, he has attained the experience and training of PIPAC in cancer, from the stalwarts who has invented it in Germany and India. Many more trainings and surgical adventures are in pipelines as for him learning should never be stopped. Dr. Sandeep is a highly regarded open and minimally invasive onco-surgeon known for his extensive experience and dedication to provide top-tier patient care.Dr. Sandeep completed his MBBS in the year of 2010 from VSS Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre, which is one of the oldest premier medical school in the state of Odisha. After completion of MBBS, he joined MS General Surgery in the same medical school. Finishing general surgery with good exposure and experience he travelled all the way from Odisha to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala to join as a MCH trainee in Surgical Oncology in Regional Cancer Centre. During his MCH training he was posted in Thoracic Oncology unit in TATA Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, INDIA for training purpose. He had developed a special interest towards Thoracic and Upper GI onco-surgery during his training. After his training, he was posted at Cochin Cancer and Research Centre as Consultant in the Department of Surgical oncology as a part of post-MCH bond service where he established the laparoscopic onco-surgery unit along with his colleague. He, then, joined as a Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology in Karkinos Healthcare Private Limited, Kerala operation based in Kochi, where he joined hands with Dr Moni A. Kuriakose, stalwart of Head and Neck Oncology, to establish a unique model of decentralization of cancer care at community level. Subsequently, he was trained by the inventors of PIPAC, for use of PIPAC in treatment of cancer. He also secured the special training in minimal invasive(keyhole) cancer surgery by IAGES. Driven by enormous thirst of acquiring more skill and knowledge, he went for the observership to SHANGHAI PULMONARY HOSPITAL, SHANGHAI CHINA, (caters maximum number of lung cancer patients and surgery in the world) for Uniportal VATS and RATS training.
Currently, Dr Sandeep is working as Senior Consultant in Minimal Invasive Onco-surgery at RENAI Medicity, Kochi, where he is in the process of developing the Department of Surgical Oncology.
